>>1692119i'd say get something in the way of an 8' or 9' daiwa beefstick, a 5000 or 6000 size reel to go with it, spool it with 20 pound mono, and put a shock leader of 30 or 40 pound test on there.
kast masters, bucktail, pencil poppers, for lures, and then for live/dead bait a selection of pyramid sinkers, some beads, swivels, and some 3/0 circle hooks. that should be a solid setup for stripers, big bluefish, maybe a few bonita, but take my advice with a grain of salt because i've only fished as far north as central new jersey and only did that once in november.
>>1692126>I also wouldn't go as heavy with leader as skid saysi've lost too many gotcha plugs to pissed off bluefish to run a light leader, and i never really lag behind anyone else in numbers when they're around, so no reason not to use a 50 pound leader for blues and spanish
but, you do what works for you.
>>1692160i wouldn't put that in baby's first saltwater cart, just because it can be a little much. start soaking bait for spot, croaker, and sea mullet (actually northern kingfish, not a mullet) and throwing gotchaplugs or diamond jigs for spanish/blues, then graduate to the "harder" stuff
