If you were going to build a cabin way out there, if budget weren't a huge issue, how would you build? what tools would you want to rely on?
Dick Proenecke style? cleaned rounded notched logs? Or that russian lawyer? If i had logs like he has, I would probably do the same.
Appalachian style with rough hewn flat sides? If you have a good chinking material, you could almost do that whole style with an axe.
Mainly a hand tools design?
Alaskan chainsawmill or portable sawmill to make a timber frame and boards like that bearded canadian on youtube? That's a pretty sweet cabin but seems pretty leaky.
I'd want some stone for a nice hearth. I know that if I can't have 8"+ thickness of wood in the walls, I'd want some serious insulation for cold climates..strawbales seem interesting but i haven't seen many examples in the north.
