>>1695271Its true. Throughout my 20's a did a lot of environmental work, from forest survey volunteer work, used to challenge proposed timber sales during comment period, and sue forest service over them, if needed, to more underground shit, heavy road blockades to prevent tar sands equipment moving, tree sits, etc..
The difference between now and 80's enviro, was back then, a lot of the people in the movements like Earth First!, ELF, etc. were from rural communities. The forests were there homes, and they were skilled in construction and building with materials only in the forest, along with bare essentials, like rope and nails.
Now, most of the people seem to be suburban raised, and thus lack the connection, building skills, and dedication of the older movements. That, along with heightened persecution and the patriot act denoting literally all forms of protest sans holding a sign or filling out a position as TERRORISM, is why you see much less heavy, long haul forest road blockades blocking access to approved timber sales, fur farm burnings (the animal lib movement has always been pretty separated from the forest defense folk too, though), etc., and more sign holding and "for the media" type sensationalist, short lived actions.
Resistance only goes as far as people are willing to put themselves and their freedom at risk. People nowadays just aren't willing. They'd rather lose all their liberties, their forests, their future, in exchange for consoomer comfort instead, then compensate with a lot of virtue signaling and sign holding.
