You don't have to though. I was interested in the concept, and still am. It does rather well, and requires no fossil fuel. I like that. If you don't, stick with what you like. I also have a Whisperlite that I bought nearly 30 years ago, a white gas Coleman stove from the 1960's and a propane stove from 2001. If all else fails, I can build a fire and use that. Maybe that's not too techie or gimmicky for you?
