I have to say you're right that they aren't the heaviest but they are comfy and make a good layer and what the hell is wrong with plaid??? i like the collar on the fireside shirt.. stands up nice.. they have plain colors too, but I don't think i would buy any more.. they actually have a polyster/cotton shoulder lining which doesn't breath for shit.. and wasn't disclosed on their website. -1 for pendleton.
Also got some Cotton moleskin shirts from J peterman/guideboat that were on sale and super comfy and durable.. good winter wear for the price. double layered elbows and shoulders. for $75 on sale it was worth it..
at the end of the day they all feel overpriced.. I'm really close to buying a sewing machine and some good wool fabric.. that might end up being a humbling experience.
might get 1 item from filson just to check it out.
