What's the fucking point? Why do these exist? Why do so many retards use these?
I'm looking at getting a new hiking pack and am honestly struggling to find one without a rain cover included. And don't get me started on the fucking sleeping bag compartments...

a) the hole is over the back of the pack and your coat, both of whick can get drenched without it being an issue
b) if properly wrapped , the hole is "under" as the yellow one on your pic. Water runs downard along the seam, and drips on the ground
c) the liner is double layer for critical elements (clothes, sleeping gear, etc...) the cover protects stuf tied outside/in the nets (generally tools, tarps)
d) you're a faggot having a tantrum over nothing

t.live in oceanic climate, every outing between october and may is under buckets of rain and wind. I use a pack cover that cost me 5€ and never failed me

Most packs are already water-resistant anyway, and you should be a using a pack liner/drybag on the inside in the first place.

thank you for confirming you have absolutely no experience with outdoors or tools. Even stainless steel will suffer if left under the rain. And there are people who carry tools for their job, every day, all year round, and they use bag covers. But of course, they must be wrong if some autist on the internet is offended by the fact rain protection works despite a hole.

you're being a little bitch because you can't find something suited to your fantasy of a 360° sealed water cover, while anyone who has actual experience with needing to keep stuff dry tells you it's fine despite "the hole" causing your sissy fit

Rain covers aren’t meant to waterproof your pack 100% but that’s not the issue with the equipment, that’s an issue with YOU. Most people commonly understand this. The rain cover is there to prevent the major bulk of the rain getting in to and soaking your bag and ultimately water logging and/or amplifying your weight load which will happen a lot more if you don’t have one. They’re necessary.

There is absolutely no such thing as a fully waterproof camping bag and if such a thing did exist it would probably be heavy as sin. It also wouldn’t have zippers as zippers aren't that great at waterproofing. So you would need something like a giant dry bag with straps on it and anytime you have to attach or sew anything to it you then have a spot for failure that you’d have to seal with a membrane which would fail overtime.

In short: the problem is you. Most people who have experiences with the outdoors and outdoors equipment understand that if it rains you get wet and so does your gear. While dry bags will help with that it won’t protect everything but a rain cover will at least keep your pack better than an uncovered bag will.

That part is usually against your back, so it's not getting all that wet. You've minimized 90% of more of the potential weather damage, there's your point. Little drizzle on the back is fine, everything inside and out soaked through is a disaster.

A rain cover is basically a poncho for your bag, you could carry a poncho that covers you and your bag instead. Now with a liner the contents in other pockets may get wet and depending on material and construction the bag itself may retain water. It depends on your equipment what's going to happen.

If you really want water proof then search for a "drybag pack".

Defintely a meme of your backpack is of decent quality. I have a Kelty Trekker 65 (external frame) and last year I accidentally left it out during a gushing rainstorm for a couple hours. When I realized this, I ran out and rushed it back into my tent, only to discover that it was completely dry inside. Turns out a big flap of thick nylon is rainproof already.
