Tomorrow is payday, and I will finally be retiring my old Cattaraugus 225q and ordering an Ontario. I have followed every knife thread intently and done quite a bit of research elsewhere.

I have narrowed my two choices down to
Ontario RD6 6" 5160 Steel $82 shipped
or
Ontario RBS6 6" 1095 Steel $67 shipped

My question is has anyone here used these two steels and what are your impressions?

I prefer plain edge. The knives are identical in design. The only difference is the material and the price with the RD6 5160 being $15 more. I am an emergency preparedness enthusiast and plan on this being the last large knife I buy in case of SHTF.

I already have a tomahawk, a custom machete, and a pocket folder. A medium survival knife followed by a smallish (around 3-4") should cover ever conceivable need. I haven't decided on the small one yet, probably Mora or ESEE.

So bros, who knows shit about these steels?
