I motocamped through Kyrgyzstan for a couple weeks 2 years ago.
Being able to get places that you can't in a car was great and I hope I don't ever forget it. That being said, getting caught in an ice storm while in the mountains sucks, sleeping huddled up against the wall of an old sheep corral to get out of the wind and the rain sucks, getting multiple flat tires and having no tools or working knowledge of either Kyrgyz or Russian with only a basic grasp of Cyrillic sucks. Riding across open prairie with a herd of horses at Song Kol was awesome, bonding with Kyrgyz shepherds over a pack of Camel slims was awesome, telling jokes with Russian mechanics through a bad translator was awesome. I wouldn't have had any of those experiences in a car. So, I say motocamping is definitely /out/. I might take my mini bike the 100 miles to Canada over the course of a couple days this summer just for kicks.
