This has been a lot of fun already, but my creativity is very limited so I am interested in your ideas. Does anyone else do this when /out/?

Get into mushroom foraging / mycology. Try to find choice edibles and aesthetic freaks. It will be morel season soon. They like alkaline soils and burned areas. Generally found under elm trees (where i‘m at) and pretty elusive.

If I'm just out it's relaxing but I focus on learning/practicing skills that aren't really needed if I don't happen into something or have something specific to try.
- Practice different types of fire, not how to ignite but different fire lays. Hole fires, I like slot fires but it's too wet recently.
- Hand drill hurts my hand so I do bow drill instead, learn to make twine (reverse wrap) and your good. There's tons of other ignition methods like magnifying glass, rope/rattan thong, etc. to try.
- I take a knife and saw but don't always use them. First it's just not always necessary but even when it is, you can find a rock or smash some together to get sharp pieces. Break bigger sticks using leverage. Even made a knife out of a can lid I found.
- Make baskets/bags/containers from whatever.
- Made many wooden weapons and tools including simple stuff like chop sticks.
- Tried to make a bone knife but accidentally it in half.
- Trying to use map and compass, I kinda suck on accuracy.
- Can you make glue? What about natural firestarters? Pine sap.
- Not a out thing but related, homemade stoves, alcohol and twig.
- Keeping a journal.
- If you have a tarp, you can try different ways of setting it up and different knots when doing it.
