You want to be able to enjoy yourself even if you can't sleep because your pad or sleeping bag isn't comfortable. Don't throw cold, wet, windy, etc into the mix. Get gud at fairweather camping first and as the weather starts to turn ease into the seasons.
Not that the fun and adventure of diving right into a brutal camping experience isn't somewhat appealing, it's just not going to be much fun when you don't even have a routine going yet.
