My EDC first aid gear is limited to two items:
(1) Tourniquet.
(2) Hemostatic Gauze.
I used to carry daily a larger pack with disinfectants, tape, scissors, various bandages, pain meds, diarrhea meds, sugar tablets, etc...
But it became too much of a pain to lug around all that junk (it was in my EDC... i've spent years being a goddamn masochist with my EDC load out, but lately after some joint pain and injuries i've considered changing my role in this life from the guy that always has a tool for everything, to the guy that is risk avoidant, escapes before any other action, and packs light)...
In my risk analysis, massive bleed from one or two big cuts is the number #1 threat in my daily life when it comes to threats that i have any possibility treating on my own.
My two biggest daily health risks (beyond those long-term ones like bad air quality, diet, excersise) are:
(1) traffic accident.
(2) knife attack.
I've been lucky to avoid both my entire life, despite having an active outdoorsy life (5 years homeless, selling drugs -- was robbed at gun point once, but never got into a fight).
Btw, for fear of violence, better than Hemostatic Gauze to pack those stab wounds, is a self-protection technique called DE-ESCALATION (="verbal judo"). Even better: practicing situational awareness and AVOIDING risky areas and suspicious people. If those two fail: ESCAPING is always better than fighting.
The only situation I believe I would have to resort to fighting is when I'm with a stupid friend who is too weak to effectively run away, after pissing off someone with their arrogance, after insisting on taking silly risks to begin with. I love my stupid friends, so this scenario is more likely than I could have imagined as a shut-in hikikomori basket-weaver before i became homeless.
Ha!
