i have a family member who worked on this project directly. problem is that the majority of those in the call centre for 999 refuse to accept its a real thing, even though they would have had proper training.
we used it one day because some pikeys were going around with a gun shooting on my land, needless to say, the person on the end of the phone refused to use it, and because my family member is very high up within the police rankings, said person had a very long holiday.

I've argued this with work colleagues (out job) but it's surprising how many people who go out wont have a GPS/app on their phone that give a ten fig grid ref. easier for mongs to download a cool app!!! i go outdoors!!!

I know if I were to call 911, they receive the cell phone coordinates, and if I had a phone without a GPS receiver, they could still somehow triangulate it with the cellphone company. that's just the location of the cell tower you connected to. it's something, but obviously if you're /out/ it's not a precise enough location.

I think they rolled out Enhanced 911 somewhat recently which will give more precise location data to the dispatcher from your cellphone’s GPS chip. I could be wrong
