Lel, I made a ditty bag for my cook set from pants, too. I sewed the pant leg ends I had after shortening them together in a tube, with a leather elbow patch on the bottom.

Preparing for a month long ski tour in northern sweden in two weeks.
Made a pot cozy for my Czech mess kit, ate breakfast out of it this morning and wow what a huge difference, food stayed warm nearly twice as long.
Sadly most of the stuff I've been up to has been purchases or gear trades not DIY

Dont have any good photos of it but my home built supply sled being modified with a 120cm wood slat sewn into the top of the cover so it's easier to close with mittens on and harder for snow to get in.

The bolts that keep the cloth in place, they stick out a bit and it's too much work to cut them down with a hacksaw or grind them down one at a time, simpler to just tape over them, they catch on stuff often and it's nice to not damage stuff sacks or other soft skinned items.

Not exactly DIY but emptied the freeze dried foods into 1L plastic bags, saved almost 150g and a lot of bulk, they dont compact well and I have my pot cozy to rehydrate more effectively anyway. Gonna reuse the plastic bags at my supply cache after two weeks.

I'm currently off work so I decided to go to the family cabin and open it up for the season for my dad. I have a few projects including cutting up some wood, patching a pipe, changing the 100lb propane tank, and more importantly do a little trout fishing. I stocked up on groceries for a good week. When you do it make sure you smoke it properly.

My first project I made a buckskin suit from about a dozen deer hides and didn't smoke them because I was intimidated by it, well a couple years later I pulled them out of the closet and they were all moldy and shit. It's worth it to go the extra mile because it'll last forever.

i love the idea of the paiute deadfall, but they are just such a bitch to balance, because you need to know the length of the cord in relation to the angle of the rock, and the length of the bait stick, assuming that you dont also want to carry the rock lol

The angle usually should be just 90 degrees, but I dislike the trap over these ones since a dead fall might squash the guts and spoil the meat. Plus once set of there are a thousand stones just like it, it's a bitch to remember

I currently have about 30 coyote pelts curing in a friends barn. They attacked his livestock so we wiped them out, but now we dont know what to do with the furs. Should I just sell them off to a furrier or make things out of them? There in amazing shape, they would make amazing hoods or coats.

Get some tanned with fur on. Sell the rest if you don't want them. I have an opossum pelt I'm tempted to make a hood out of to keep my ears warm (if it doesn't get me shot by hunters). Ever since I tried out a pair of suede gloves, I'm convinced that leather is definitely worth it as it works way better in keeping you warm. Seems to keep the wind out better than synthetic (plastic) gloves. With a slightly thicker glove (or two layers), I think I could actually replace my snow gloves (which I plan to do with a pig skin mitten). So if you get cold in the winter, definitely make a jacket and/or hood with those pelts, anon. Or hell, maybe gloves.

They are extremely warm to the point of being good in artic circumstances depending on where you are located, they will make an awesome hood or even sleeping bag for that matter, they're just as warm as reindeer

That's easy peasy lemon sqeezy. Just learn a couple of stitches through videos and buy 400 meter of artificial sinew. It splits in 3 so it's actually 1200 meters. As for needles you can go /in/ and buy them or you can go all /out/ and make them out of bone or antler

Well you could sell them, but with the market the way it is now you probably wouldn't get a decent price. Maybe 20 bucks a pop. Even less if they're not good quality. Definitely try tanning a few of them and see how it goes. They're cool just to have as wall hangers and you could also try crafting some stuff out of them. 30s a lot, but there's a ton of things you can do with them.

I made a serrated bone knife from the femur of a deer my dog brought me. I made the blade completely primitively using limestone to bash the bone, and sandstone to shape it and form an edge. I then used a little piece of sandstone to make serrations. I went modern with the handle and sheath and used eastern red cedar, modern tools, and paracord to make it a functioning neck knife. It’s sharp enough to cut plants, peel bark off, and probably cut meat (haven’t tested that). For 15, I’d say I’m doing alright.

I ended up using the "Deerskins into buckskins" book and found it adequate for teaching yourself. It leaves a little that you have to interpret, but I can confirm the egg tanning method is easy and straightforward.

I've never tried the brain tanning method, I'll get around to it one of these days. But I have tried the ash bucking with hardwood ashes and that works really good.

ALL of the buckinners books are top tier /out/ books in general, I luckily inherited a complete set.
