hey friends, I'll be moving to Huntsville, ON up in Muskoka very soon and I'm looking for some recommendations from /out/
There's tons of lakes and trails and places to hike

I lived in Kawartha region for a while. You're going to need a head net, and hammocks are easier than tents. The ground was really swampy and not many flat places. Wintertime is really beautiful there.

my grandmother had a cottage near Dorset that we'd go to every summer and most winters too
she's since sold it and i didn't realize how badly i missed being up north until i went up for this Valentine's day with my husband and a friend
i fell back in love with it all over again and so did he
on a whim he suggested we move up and i agreed instantly
replied to some kijiji ads, attended some showings, and finally rented a nice house on brunel road

I've heard it can get pretty busy. We're purchasing a home with 11 acres just north of gravenhurst so we will still have our peace and quiet. I will check out the bakery for sure.

Work-wise we haven't sent in applications yet but we've talked to plenty of places that seem like a great fit, there's a lot of job postings right now
Thanks btw, we are incredibly excited to move, we just hired movers today and we'll be going on the 26th

Not gonna lie I'm very tempted to move out of the shithole that is Toronto to a place where the fishing is good and the cost of living is much cheaper.
But I'm worried about not being able to find a suitable job out in the middle of nowhere. I don't mind accepting less pay though if I can get by on a lot less.
What are some of the job postings you're seeing there?

If you have a skilles trade or a welding ticket you'd be golden, if not you'd have to get your foot in the door with a business, there's a lot of construction jobs, arborist jobs, landscaping, insulation, and general labour positions. If you're a good worker and have a vehicle youll you'll be valued.

If you like being /out/, there's a good amount of outdoors jobs.

Yeah Toronto is getting more and more unbearable by the day. I don't see it getting any better and spending half my salary on rent just isn't a financially sound position to be in for the long term.
Unfortunately I'm a white collar worker in administration so that's my biggest issue with finding work out in the boonies.
I guess I could work in retail/sales but not sure if minimum wage (or close to it) will still cut it out there.

Do you have a vehicle? Why not save up, purchase a northernly house, and commute to work instead? If you don't mind long drives and early mornings that is.

I currently do not own a vehicle as I live within 10 minutes walk to my office. But I am saving up for one.
I commuted for over an hour on the train for four years and i'm not sure if I want to do long commutes ever again, especially to Toronto. Traffic in and out of Toronto during rush hours are brutal.

Fair enough. You're best bet would be to reach out to potential employers directly, only 20% of jobs are landed through indeed anyway. I would just try and sell myself and share your skills with them and I'm sure you'll find a fitting position for yourself, just have to put yourself out there. Thats what I had to do before I decided to move north, it took a few months (it was winter anyway) and I landed a decent job with potential for growth. Just do some research on where you'd like to live, and start reaching out to companies.
