>>1710920>Do you have one? Have you tried it?Yes and yes. In the right conditions an umbrella is a very useful bit of kit. On the AT and the TRT I carried an umbrella and a wind jacket rather than a rain jacket. It worked great most the time. The umbrella provided much needed shade at times and when it was raining but hot and hummid I could stay dry with out sweating out. The tree on the AT provided shelter from the wind for the most part. The issue was near the end when some of the climbs or descents required both hands, so in those times I had to suck up getting wet. It wasn't a huge issue as my layers kept me warm and dried quickly.
