You did Washington last year, right? What’d you find harder, Marcy or Washington? I’m torn - Marcy’s challenge is that the hike is so long (16+mi), Washington is steeper but you can be back to the car by lunchtime (7-8mi). I think Mt Marcy is harder desu

Snowshoe police here. It’s a multi use trail so yes you should wear snowshoes up it, until treeline at least then crampons if warranted. In the spring it’s fucking awful when one asshole post holes his way up the entire trail when the snow softens, and then it refreezes into knee deep ice holes that don’t go away until the snow completely melts. I’ve narced on people for not wearing snowshoes - don’t even feel bad about it

Marcy was way more difficult simply because of the approach length.
We camped at the phelps mountain campsite, which meant dragging a winter pack in 4 miles because the ADK parking lot was full. The hike up and down Marcy itself isn't bad, but packing up camp and night hiking out an additional 4 miles with a 45lb winter after doing marcy was a huge pain

Mt washington on the other hand was much shorter day trip, and really lucked out since winds that day were <10 mph, and actually got to spend some quality time at the summit

Algonquin Mtn. Mt. Colden is in the immediate background with all the slides, and Mt. Marcy is behind that. I believe Giant Mtn is above the stewardess's head in the far background.
