if you are truly out they wont work, because sats arent a thing. you need to be in range of a tower. hence why so many with these die every year because like the simp you are, you think sats are real.fucking lul use a compass and a first aid kit you tard

I got a thuraya xt lite recently.
I thought I'd be able to keep it on and receive calls like a normal phone but it doesn't work like that.

still the main reason for getting it was for an emergency, and it works fine for that.

For most people they are excessive and you'd be better served with a SARSAT beacon (no subscription required).

They're basically only good for emergencies anyway and very expensive to own and use.

This may change with next-generation LEO data satellites, like what Starlink is putting up now.

I carry a beacon because I keep having massive heart attacks. There's a place that rents out the satellite phones near my I use if I'm going somewhere REALLY remote. Renting is good because you don't have to have it sitting around costing you money when you're not using it.

PLBs/EPIRBs that run on the SARSAT network is restricted in a lot of countries.
Some only allow them to be used for maritime rescue (and it needs to be registered to a specific boat call-id), and other countries requires a license or an approved application if you want to use them.

So a satphone or satcom/locator with a subscription like Spot, garmin inreach, iridium etc. may be the only option you have, dependant on location.
