Not sure what your issue is? You can park down the road for free at South Meadow if you don’t want to park in their lot. That’s what I do and it’s really not a huge deal. You’re paying for a secure parking lot on private land that gets maintained and plowed in the winter. And you can pop into the lodge and ask their employees (who don’t work for free) about trail conditions or anything else. And there’s a clean bathroom.

Also, about the bear canister. I was there last year (or maybe the year before) when a bear ransacked a guy’s tent, and then later cornered a group in a leanto who were eating in it. Bear canisters are annoying but bears are fucking assholes and stalk the same campsites every night waiting for dipshits to not have food secured

If you're there late enough for that stand to be manned your the problem. Leaving $12 a day to park is nothing. All these assholes that come up the trails mid day are almost exclusively city people and not respectful. Retards like the OP are the reason bear canisters are mandatory becouse they can't hang a bag properly. These idiots struggle to even close a bear canister... I think they still have a display of fans that were "broken into". Number one failure being the lid wasn't on. I shit you not.

The Lake of the Clouds hut could charge $30, or $300 and have no shortage of reservations all summer, so why exactly would they charge $30? The AMC also provides caretakers and serves a “free” breakfast and dinner with running water. Don’t stay there if you don’t want to pay for it, problem solved.
