>>1717592>So far I have mountain biking, shovel and water for off roading, and maybe a cooler for food.None of these require a truck bed. A large cab would work just as well. Even my tiny samurai can take two mountainbikes in the back.
The only thing you really need a bed for is transporting stuff that is to smelly or leaves behind to much dirt for the cab. Stuff like dung, soil or firewood. A bed is also helpful for transporting long stuff like beams and boards, but you can also carry those by strapping them to an exocage (or a roofrack if they're not to heavy).
>Should I've gone with a jeepNo. Modern jeeps are overpriced, overengined crap, and the old jeeps that weren't (40s and 50s models) require to much maintenance for a daily driver. The old renegades (the ones that were based on the wrangler) are the only jeeps that are still worth getting, and even they are far from good for offroading due to their heavy engines and automatic transmissions.
If you want a good car for /out purposes that can still carry something, get either a 7 series landcruiser, a 460 or 461 G or a MOG. If it doesn't have manual transmission and part-time 4wd, it's a street car. full-time 4wd, automatic transmission and the like are a burden offroad - you can get by with them most of the time, but it's just easier without them.
Also, in case it wasn't obvious, if you do not need to carry heavy loads, nothing beats the 2001-2003 samurais. if you're from the cucked states and can't get it thanks to jeep's lobbying, the gasoline mahindra tharr and some UTVs come close.
