>>1723211i'm the same. but often i simply can't use stakes. that's why i only buy 100% freestanding dome tents. most of my overnight /out/ is in the high sierra where my campsites are on 2" of loose, coarse gravelly sand over solid granite, so stakes literally can't stake in. i usually end up using rocks to hold the vestibule out. i like that stick behind the rocks trick; i'm filing that away for future use. it will definitely help my brother with his new tarptent double rainbow when he can't find a soft spot.
