Hard = brittle. If durability is the name of the game and you want something to hammer on, a little softer will last a lot longer even if you have to sharpen it more. Ferro rod is a non issue as long as you have a 90 degree it'll spark just fine. You wouldn't wanna be cleaving off huge chunks of ferro anyway it'd be a waste

Anyways, I'd suggest the Glock 79. Look up the torture tests on youtube. It's pretty much useless for everything other than stabbing, prying and cutting rope though.

Any knife can last a lifetime if used properly. Don't let it rust, don't use it to dig or to cut hard wood and do sharpen it often enough and even the shittiest knife (well, maybe not THE shittiest) will last you decades. If you want to mistreat it, just get the cheapest knife you can find because you will destroy even a good blade.

Far from it, it's good for traditional knife tasks but it's safe to say that things formerly considered abuse are the standard now. Using a knife for chopping and splitting wood is the new trend.
Some powder steels are so hard and tough, it's not possible for a human to break them without applying a lever to the handle.
The hefty price tag is a testament to that.
