Do you ever read when you go hiking/camping? I always take some book with me, although I don't always read it, I just find it comforting. Pic related of something I read while I rested during a hike.

I never read but I wish I found it more rewarding. I occasionally read non-fiction which is okay if the topic interests me. Fiction is something I've never getting drawn in by. Pic related, one of my last reads.

unless you're out for extended periods (at least >1 week), it's not the place to be reading imo
very crudely put, reading is a sort of escapism, and there's nothing to run from when you're outdoors. you're better off just sitting, walking around, playing with sticks, etc.

I cannot read inside; the mind needs space to expand. You can be 100% tuned in to your surroundings while still turning pages.

I usually bring comfy, quick reads like Poirot mysteries or Blandings novels. I generally don't like reading /out/-themed books outdoors -- though a recent exception was when I went winter camping with a copy of Endurance. Freezing my ass off and being bored stiff most days helped me better understand what it would be like to sit on an ice floe for a year.
