Living in Indiana definitely makes me appreciate Michigan with all spring fed rivers and (what looks like) old growth forest though.

Is camping been banned yet? What about backpacking? I know here they closed down the campgrounds but "backcountry recreation" is allowed. I'm guessing that makes backpacking ok.

I'd planned to drive up from wisconsin and do some backpacking in the porkies before everything went to shit. Anybody here done that loop from lake of the clouds down to camp by lake superior and back?

I'm moving to Madison for work in a couple weeks, any recommendations on places to check out? I'm from Illinois so I'm familiar with some of the parks closer to the southern boarder, but haven't gone further north than madison, except a week near oshkosh.
I'm excited to boulder at devil's lake this summer/fall, assuming the coof goes away.

I currently live in wisconsin for work. the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is a pretty good place. I have yet to be out near madison but all over the state has good parks and forests. I've been doing a lot of mountain biking in the Kettle Moraine State Forest.

Only lived here 5 years so not an expert or anything. I live by Milwaukee and have family in the northeast part but haven't been out by Madison as much. Look for spots with hike in camp sites to avoid the crowds during the warm months. Governor Dodge state park is close to Madison and pretty cool. It's got some hike in campsites and is open year round. Fun place to take a kayak or canoe and good hiking trails. The ice age trail here on my side of the state has some good segments for weekend backpacking. If you want real /out/ you can make the drive up to Chequamegon Nicolet national forest for dispersed camping and getting bit by ticks. What kinda activities are you into?

Sup fellow Milwaukee anon, how are you doing? Here's some stuff I've done.

Oh hey bud. Hope you're holding up ok with all the parks closed. I did some sneaky hiking out at Loew Lake unit of Kettle Moraine the other day but mostly been just staying in my neighborhood. I haven't been to Dundee mountain yet, I'll have to check that out. Here's some stuff I like that wasn't on your list

the cordwalk through the dunes is great. also if you reserve it early you can camp in their giant musty teepee
>Wolf River Tubing
get a wristband for $15 and you get to use their tubes and the shuttle all day. the ride down the river takes a few hours. end up back at camp, make lunch, do it again
>that one hike-in camp site at Lapham Peak.
you might already know about it but they don't really advertise it. good spot to shakedown your gear before going on big trip.
