I do know how to stop line with your hand with a spinning reel, its the only way to stop it besides closing the bail. I grew up using spinning reels and still use them. My point is, you cannot "spool" a spinning reel like the fellow said you can with a 1000 size reel. that is what hes talking about.
https://youtu.be/7HM3PcpvfV8?t=82This is only possible with a 2000 size reel because the spool is longer. Even if he choked up on his 1000 size reel, he still couldn't use his index finger. One of the reasons why the japanese made the 2000 size reel was percisely this, longer spool that allows for casting hand management.
I may also add, the primary difference between spinning reels and Baitcasters.
Spinning reels require Zero load of a rod for the line to move, all you need to do is open the bail.
However, Baitcasting is much different. If you engage the spool release, the lure shouldn't move very much if at all. The rod, reel, and lure then require FORCE in order to cast. This is why baitcasters are more accurate. You get to decide how much heat you want to put into a each cast as well as how you want to wind up, and when you want the lure to stop.
Very good bass anglers know this. I grew up bass fishing and it is still very special to me. I Unfortunately do not live where there are many bass, and they don't get very big. This partially led me to Japanese mountain stream style and bait finesse.
