Profile - As low to the ground as possible. A small footprint will let you slip into spots that other tents wouldn't be able to.
Natural cover - Ideally, camp next to dense foliage or next to large rocks that block direct view of your tent. If you are by a trail, camp on the uphill side.
Other ways to reduce the chances of discovery:
-Only pitch your tent after dark and take it down as soon as the sun comes up.
-Know the directions from you to all points of interest so you can keep an occasional eye in that direction (trails, roads, private property, government offices, etc.)
-No campfires and only use flashlight sparingly on the low setting.
-Minimize noise (some tent/tarp fabrics are very noisy).
