Don't get anything aluminium.

Personally I just use a stainless steel bowl I bought at the dollar store for a buck, a stainless steel dog bowl and a homemade stainless lid. Drill some holes and copper wire and whala. Didn't cost me more than $5

Hard anodized aluminum is the best.

The cooksets made by Woods Canada are quite good.

The biggest question is, will it just be for yourself, or will you need to occasionally share your kit? Don't get too distracted by size either. A lot of the bigger ones may seem overkill, but there's a ton of empty space within the kit where I put small items and food. It's nice when you can at least throw all your instant coffee inside your mess kit.

I've got a solid silver pan I use for everything. It's a little heavier but it heats up extremely quickly and has a good even cooking surface.

I have a bunch of the pathfinder stuff. TI bushpot is handy for cooking pasta or boiling lots of water. I fake seasoned their frying pan and it’s cooked up many of fish and squirrel.
The msr alpine pots are pretty nice also.

I usually go with steel or titanium
if you can afford it titanium is the goat

If you're weight restricted, pick either aluminum or titanium depending on your budget.

If you're not as badly weight restricted, stainless is the best to cook with.

If you're car camping, grab whatever's in your kitchen. Stainless and cast iron are king.

Just get a titanium pot and pan set.
Toaks is good.
Snow Peak is good, but a little cheaper quality.

Titanium doesn't chip, It's non-toxic, and lightest material.
Problems are it's an excellent conductor of heat so you could burn things.

If weight isn’t an issue make your own mess kit. Thrift store pots and pans with handles removed and replaced with some wire is my go to on longer trips. Day trips I keep a German mess kit in my day bag with tea fixings stored inside, for those rainy work day lunch time pick me up. I found a lil alcohol/hexamine tablet stoves but I find a lil fire is faster with the added benefit of a toasted sandwich.

I've used something like this in the past. not bad really. the lid was not so tall though and i used it as a small frying pan. the non stick wasn't so great though for eggs.

i just bought this gsi glacier ketalist kit in stainless. haven't used yet but looks pretty usable. you can also get an anodized aluminum version that is 100g lighter. this thing is like 450g (15oz) and the other is 315g (11oz) i believe. Stainless is heavier but lasts forever. They're about the same price.

I have this exact set (but not from mec), it's amazing, fits a butane cansiter, stove, lighter, spork, and cloth inside easily. Silicon handles melted somewhat when cooking on a campfire. Been using it four years and it is basically in the same condition I got it in.
