I think people are the the same way. We are predators. We are literally the dominant predators of this world. We have to protect animals from other people because we're the most effective killers in the world. We are so violent, that we have had wars for thousands of years, since we ever had government to corral us and religion to make us sheep that can be herded by dogs for the farmer.
People are fucking brutal. I don't feel safe at night. The Brothers Grimm stories about ogres and monsters and witches and goblins aren't about actual monsters that existed or exist, cryptids if you will, but awful, horrible people. They've just been stereotyped and dehumanized to shelter us from the ugly reality.
We are the real monsters.
