-Some extra food to keep me happy if i have to spend extra night /out

-backup knife (2in/5cm folding knife)

Never actually use my kit but here's first aid/survival scenarios i’m thinking
-Fallen rock while scrambling
-Falling face first into a rock
-accidents with knoife/axe
-morons accidentally shoot me, hence the abd pads (‘morons’ including myself). Sounds stupid but happens from time to time, especially during hunting season.
-Injury forces me to stay /out one extra night, because either of hiking with the injury at night is more dangerous than just staying put or to wait for someone to help me hike out of the mountain

I don’t want stupid shit like emergency fishing equipment, tons of ropes or multitool. They're just a total waste of space. i’m not gonna stay out there for so long until i need to actually fish or build permanent shelter to survive. Those ‘survival scenarios’ are for larpers.

Sure it will. I usually won't bother making fire if the temperature is warm enough. If i have to use that shelter instead of my tent, that means i had to camp on what supposed to be a day hike because of injury. Trying to make a fire with fucked up legs is also fucking miserable.

I carry 2 bandaids and some allergy pills.
That is the whole extent of my first aid/med kit.
Unused for nearly 20 years.

Also I don't carry any over sized Rambo knives to hurt myself with.

If you have food/water, shelter and clothing you won't die. When far away from any medical assistance, don't do stupid shit. Don't take dangerous shortcuts. Don't try to jump over stuff with your heavy backpack on. If you don't know how to handle or swing axes, don't bring axes etc, etc.

Save the backpack space, spare the weight and most importantly don't waste your energy carrying stuff you'll never use. This is genuinely meant as advice for ALL hikers. The heavier your pack is, the more likely it is to lose your footing.

Start light with only the essentials and bare minimum. If you miss something, bring it on your next trip/hike.
If you go the other way around, and bring as much as you can possibly jam into your backpack - because better safe than sorry - you'll have a hard time and less energy to enjoy the outdoors.

At least add some gauze, elastic bandage and athletic tape, a tiny bottle of chlorohexidine desinfectant and some OTC painkillers. It doesn't weigh much more and it lets you treat deeper cuts, sprains and blisters. A tick remover weighs next to nothing and is a great addition.

If you're going mountaineering one of your group should carry a SAM splint and all of you should carry an emergency bivy.

Also, to all the Rambo wannabes ITT; do not, I repeat DO NOT attempt to use a tourniquet or haemostatic dressing without proper training. Direct pressure and elevating the limb above the heart is adequate treatment in most cases, at least until emergency services arrive.

Some cuts are too severe for a band-aid. And you can't prevent every accident. Athletic tape and a compression bandage help prevent swelling of the joint and can help support it enough for you to get back to civilisation.

If you're bit by a tick, properly removing it will greatly reduce the risk of it transmitting Lyme's. This means grabbing it between your skin and the head and pulling it out in a way that leaves it intact. Don't stress the tick. Don't tear the tick in two. Grab it between the head and your skin and do a twist and pull.

People get surprised by unpredictable weather, avalanches, etc. A bivy weighs little and can save your ass from hypothermia. Accidents happen, bones break. At $15 and 100 grams, a SAM splint is cheap insurance. I think the American Alpine Institute knows more about mountain safety than you do, bud.

I keep some first aid stuff in my fanny pack when I go backpacking on the weekend. I basically just have an assortment of things I typically use for basic health/first aid at home. Some of it overlaps general gear, but it's all health-related.

Main stuff:
Band-aids (basic cuts)
Neosporin (basic cuts, sometimes chapstick)
Tweezers (splinters and stuff)
Needle + thread (splinters, blisters, repairs)
Insect repellent pads (i get eaten alive)
Q-tips (ears/disinfectant applicator)
Vaseline (chapstick/firestarter)

Pills:
Tums (heartburn sucks)
Ibuprofen (general painkiller)
Aspirin (mild painkiller you can't OD on)
Dramamine (motion sickness sucks more)

Misc/not totally 1st aid:
Iodine tabs (backup water purifying)
Moleskin
Touch-knife
Gum
Emergency whistle
Toothbrush/paste
Plastic baggies for trash/general use

I carry a TQ cause I carry a gun. Though I shoot often, practice drawing and holstering, I could still have a ND or accident. Might encounter a wild animal have to pull and maybe even use the gun, during my adrenaline pump when I go to holster, I forget to clear any thing interfering with it, accidentally shoot myself. People who go out with full suture kits is to much.

Yep. Carry tourniquets, abd pads, and haemostat in case such thing happens. Getting shot while hiking sounds silly but it happens from time to time and is a realistic situation,
not a bushkek "oh im lost in mountain i must cut trees with my knoife and build a log cabin before sundown" survival situation

Haven't received any training so far, not planning to use it on anyone but myself and only if i got fucked up so bad. I know the basic rule - 1. Don't use tourny or haemostat unless you're really sure its necessary i.e. no other way to stop life-threatening blood loss. 2. Be ready to get the limb amputated because you completely stop bloodflow to it.

The amputation is really myth.
Unless the TQ is applied for prolonged periods of time, amputations is not even something to consider as a risk.
Two hours is the recommended max, but people have had them on for up to four hours without risking their limb.
The need for amputation often occurs between 4-6 hours of the TQ being applied.

If you're in a situation where you genuinenly need a TQ and have to wait for 6 or more hours for treatment/rescue, you're most likely toast in the first place.

I can recommend watching skinnymedic, prepmedic on YT or listening to skinnymedics coop podcast 'civillian medical podcast'. It gives out a lot of great info on civilian trauma treatment.

You actually don't. You can have a TQ on for over 24 hours, still keep the limb. It's also better to play the safe game and apply a TQ first, see if you need one after. If you do need a TQ, you'll be bleeding out and going into shock very damn quickly, the chances of you being able to self apply it goes down too. Biggest concern about having a TQ for to long is nerve damage, limb lost is not high.

TQs can be used in great ways. There's reports of military personnel having some on for several days, still keeping the limb. Usually what they do is as time goes on, the body begins to form it's own clot, they'll release just a slight bit of tension and let blood flow to come back, any sign of artery bleeding starting back up, they tighten that shit right back. Also one big big thing about TQs, make sure you buy from a reputable source, like North American Rescue. There people who needed one, find out the one they had was a knock off, the stitching shredded when they cranked down on the windless and ended up bleeding out. So I myself always get several, have one JUST FOR TRAINING, the others will be staged for use, but kept out of light, dirt, etc. There will be places, like arm pits, crotch, where a TQ can't be applied, so that's when knowing how to do wound stuffing and applying direct pressure that way to stop the bleeding. Also learn how to apply a TQ one handed. I think the average person should know how to apply a TQ, if you're like me who shoots often, carry a gun on a daily, you should definitely have more advance training.
