I used to carry a banjo on day hikes and backpacking trips. It’s one of those old Harmonys with a Bakelite pot, my backup beater, and I’d never bring the heavy fancy one. I’d think a fiddle or mandolin would be a little more compact but I wouldn’t bring a good one.

melodica yeah, but I don't think any accordion player is going to risk their 300+ dollar instrument during an /out/ trip. Also the added difficulty if accordions being rather bulky and sometimes heavy instruments, when compared to either strings, flutes or hamonicas.

I will bring my accordion on more safe/comfy car camping trips though

Personally, I don't feel like it's outing at all if someone doesn't bring at least a full drum kit.
Doing everything I can to disturb the peace and quiet of the forest is one of the only things that bring me joy.
And my inconsiderate and selfish hippie friends feel like that too.
If we don't have at least 1 police helicopter come and tell us to shut the fuck up, it's all just a waste of time.

Any good harmonica songs you can recommend? Just learned to play 418's wet hands. Also would be nice learning to bend but the only tutorial I found involves whistling which I don't know.

Not OP but I find songs from the 90's moomin show to be quite easy to learn. They sound nice and soothing like the song you mentioned. This guy has tabs on his descriptions and renders the songs using a chromatic harmonica but they can be passably played on a C major diatonic one. As for help with doing bends, just lower your jaw as you blow or draw and slowly mess with your tongue position as you're playing the note to see if you can audibly hear the notes change, and also make sure you're giving the reed more air. Draws on the lower pitched notes are easier to get a hang of so experiment with those. Just a matter of trial and error.

On recordings of old time jug bands I’ve heard guys who can vary the pitch. Not much but enough to keep a walking bass line going.
There’s videos on YouTube on how to play the jug that might help. I can vary the pitch a little but run out of breath before too long.

I could never find a good tutorial online on how to do clawhammer style. It frustrated me so much that I gave my banjo away awhile ago. I couldn't find someone online who could explain it well enough.

It takes a while to get the clawhammer stroke down, and it’s hard to slow it down when you’re first learning as it really doesn’t work with slow tempos. I was pretty much self taught pre YouTube and learned a lot of sloppy technique that was hard to unlearn. I’m surprised you couldn’t find anything. I look at videos a lot to learn new tunes and I’m paying attention to the left hard fretting but there must be something that shows the right hand motion. It takes weeks, maybe months to get a clean boom-chick-a clawhammer stroke down but once you have it, it’s locked in. Now if I could just learn Scruggs style..,
