I tend to agree that IME anything much over 4" or so will limits its use to novelty/specialized roles. Even in an unlikely fight with a bear or meth head or whatever, you'd want something small and manoeuvrable, as long as its pointy and sharp it'll do the job.
Some will disagree, but a mora or puuko is about as tried and true as you can get.
