If anything, I would think menstruation would be much more of a problem for woman hikers. Tampons don't weigh much, but they take up valuable space on packs. They are also difficult and unsanitary to dispose of on trail. There is a reason most outhouses have signs forbidding feminine hygiene products. Women have to plan either on only hiking while they are not menstruating, or wear pantyliner which needs to be changed and replaced.
