In a lot of mountain areas in the U.S. you can make decent money as a tradesman. A lot of your work will come from the vacation homes of the outsiders and it can feel demeaning to be the local “help” for rich seasonal people. If you can deal with that or generate enough business among locals you can do alright. A lot of the work will be seasonal with typical mountain climates so you can chill, or sweat paying bills in the off-season depending how much you make.
Every place needs teachers, dental assistants, tax accountants, etc. and a lot of people prefer city life and don’t want to make less money and be stuck in the middle of nowhere...but you want that, and if you have a needed skill you can find a place that needs it.
Anything you can do remotely like some kind of tech, selling something you make, camgirl, whatever, you can do anywhere.
