Thumb draw on a recurve bow

Can you shoot a recurve with a thumb draw accurately? I got my first bow a couple of day ago. It is a right hand bow and I discovered that using a thumb draw isn't as bad as some make it out to be. Is it bad to learn it this way?

No, unless you plan on doing competition shooting or whatever. What kind of recurve now is it? Historically speaking most cultures that used the thumb draw also used recurve nows.

My neighbor bought some homemade recurve made from ski. I got it off him for 70$ with 14 carbon fibre arrows and a vambrace. It is mystery meat hilbilly construciton, but it is sturdy and can pack a punch so I got it for fun.

I am planning on making a DIY thumb ring from a spoon. If it doesn't cut it, I will buy one or try to make one from some hardwood.

Thumb draw is used by many specifically because it makes for a clean (accurate) release. Others, because it's secure af on horseback.
Do you mean a modern recurve or a historic design?

If this, post grip. An Olympic style arrow pass is too big, and you would need to be careful to avoid string twist. A regular sized, or even no pass, makes twisting desirable.

Use a glove, or leather ring. If you're pulling less than 70#, there's no need to sacrifice feeling.

Modern type. The handle has a similar shape, with a rest for the arrow. And the poundage? I have no idea honestly.

Sage, because this conversation should move.
Unless you're shooting left handed, it'll be a bit dangerous to put the arrow on the wrong side. The arrow will eventually fall, and either go indiscriminately leftward or dryfire your bow.
Or, you cant the wrong direction and tear a rotator cuff.
