Camp knives

No.175515 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Hey guys, i need a camp knife or machete quite quick but i haven't found something that i'm 100% sure will fit my needs.

So i spend a lot of time in tropical areas, mainly in latin america so i have a use for machetes, already have one but it's not where i live now.
Right now i'm in the french alps, i found myself a little retreat in mountains and the paths leading there are covered with 6'/ 2m tall weeds and in the area i camp there's a lot of pines with dead lower branches + some dead pines on the ground.

So i need something that slashes weeds but can also chop hard wood so i can use some of the smaller trunks and bigger branches for my camp fires.I also need the knife for various other uses if the size allows it to be used like a fixed blade knife.

I also would like something rather small that could fit in a small backpack so i'm thinking either a big camp knife or a small thick machete.
From what i understand for chopping i better get something around 1/4 inch (6mm) thick. Ans i should avoid mtech, S&W and have read mixed stuff about cold steel.

I have a budget of 60 euros, bare in mind that models sold for 40$ in the US can cost 60 euros here.

Right know the best candidate seems to be the kershaw camp 10 from the pic but although i love the blades shape and thickness, the handle and sheath are too plastic/tacticool for my tastes and more importantly i'm not too confident in the quality of the chinese made blade.

Other models i'm considering : condor kumunga, condor golok (can't find any sold with a sheath (and its already 65 euros without) and the 12" ontario machete.

the bk9 is out of my price range. Can't find the ontario kukri and the other kukris seem a bit thin.

So am i missing some models or does any of you have field proven a camp knife/machete for chopping hard wood with success ?
