offered a cheap rental where i will have access to electricity but no running water.

ideas? i can haul in water but how can i best utilize that to have a decent standard of living?

If you are /fit/ get access to a gym and use their showers, otherwise just get water from rainwater/well/whatever for daily uses like cooking and drinking

Rainwater tank and electric pump for pressure is the obvious choice. That's what i'm on (Australia). Be surprised if they didn't already have a tank. It'll take a while to fill up that's the only thing. Maybe you can pay for some water haulage.

Yeah, my house is has indoor plumbing with all that and mains water too, we just use rainwater most of the time. So, not much use for you i guess, unless you want to DIY.

Yep. There's three tanks and they're each about 5400 litres so about 16,200L all up. Household of two.

look at a map, see what's upstream from where you'll be. It will give you a pretty good idea of what the water may be like.

Get a few five gallon carboys for getting filtered water from vending machines when you go to town
Do dishes with a spray bottle and paper towels.
I can get by with very little water this way

There are ways in which you can determine the water quality yourself.
You could go the chemical route and get a suitable nitrate and ammonium test kit. Not one of these test strips.
Then there is the biological way, the so-called "saprobic index", which is used for the biological assessment of the water quality of rivers.
Both ways are reliable and safe. Look it up, there's tons of information on the Internet.

if you dont get much rainfall where you're at then you can still get by on rainwater, just gotta learn how to recycle and restrict your water use and make it stretch further.
t.grew up in an Australian outback town that had no running water, had to catch your own from the 1 or 2 rainy days a year.

if your property is down hill from the closest road consider putting a tank and running 1/2' Pex to the house.

That’s how I do it. Sink just drains outside. Dug a hole and filled with gravel. Most times I use a wash basin and just dump it off the front step. Old school outhouse. Summer time I’ll jump in the lake to stay clean. Fall and winter I’ll shower at work. Longest I’ve stayed there was a year and a half.

Depending on the climate, I'd reccomend getting a water trailer. You can haul it around with a truck or a side by side, or even a tractor. if you're destitute, just get some rain barrels, a solar shower, and water filtration.

I have certainly heard of cabins where people need to haul their own water or get it delivered by truck. It's called a cistern water system. If the cabin isn't outfitted with one of those, then rent had better be really fucking cheap.
