A little ways down the valley. Too many day hike fags would come to the lake and bother me or go up to the ridge, no one would hike further down into the wild valley.

Trick question. You don't set up camp, you go where people already are so as to have less of an environmental impact. Setting up camp out there would be like shitting in a hole directly outside a public bathroom.

Well if I'm on the trail heading up it's pointless to hike down to set up camp. I would fill up my water containers at the lake before hiking for sure and see if there's a more level spot than where that photo was taken from on the trail.

Not him but I see where he's coming from with the elevation arguement. When you have a heavy pack 2000ft can be an exhausting climb and that would suck if you plan to ascend even more in the same day
