what are you looking for and where are you located anon?

>go /out/ at different times, many animals (like deer) come out around sunrise/sunset
>go to habitats of the animals you want to see, like rocky outcrops for rattlesnakes or wetlands for birds

most importantly

most animals I see /out/ are when i'm not looking for them

What are you trying to see? I've seen every mammal larger than a mouse native to my area.
Except a porcupine. I have never seen a porcupine that wasn't roadkill.
Lions and Bobcats; I see them all the time. But never a porcupine.
I even had to pull quills out of a horse's nose. But they always allude me.
The frustrating part is that they aren't rare or especially stealthy. And Nobody around me understands why i haven't seen them.

Most large mammals will be more active at dawn or dusk in the summer, before it gets too hot. Going during the week is always better. I think feral hogs know to stay off the trails on Saturday and Sunday to avoid people. Same with the feral horses that I’ve only seen a handful of times.

Eastern Nevada. They'll try and attack your horse if you leave it to go check on trail cameras

get up before the sun rises. be at the location just as the sun is rising and it's light enough to see. preferably near a water source. you can also look for tracks after it rains, they will be on river banks and creek beds. if you see a beaver dam, leave it alone, they get grumpy when you mess with their dam.

t. learned that beavers can fight the hard way.

I am aware. But every "wild" horse today is 90% quarter horse. The Spanish mustangs and the cryptid pre columbian horses have all been out bred by horses that have been turned loose in the last hundred years.

I took a gf to Pryor Mountains Wild Horse Range back in 95
We had to wait for dusk, hide near water, and wait for a while to see any horses
But we were rewarded when a mare crept out of the bush, looked around, signaled it was OK, and the whole herd came down to drink

There was some geneticist a while back who claimed to have proof of present day pre-columbian horses. But he died right before he was about to release it. Probably just an unfortunate occurrence. But i do entertain the conspiracy theories about the Smithsonian deliberately stifling discoveries of things that would change our understanding of natural history.

Eh. I don't feel like going into it right now. If i started, some retard would do two Google searches and find something to contradict my digested version of the theory. I live in a city with a river valley and a nuce little creek near my house. Bought binocs this week and the wildlife is nat-geo level awesome. Saw a porcupine, two great herons, a vole and some lil yellow birds on the weekend. If you have shitty eyesight like me, you've been missing out on some cool critters. BINOCULARS, BABY!!!!

Besides what everyone else said about going at dusk, you should also go alone, and further than a couple miles from a trailhead. If you have more than one person trampling through the woods chatting to each other you’ll never see anything
