You're so right though. If you're hiking, there is no reason to have a baseweight over 15lbs. You don't even need to buy niche UL stuff, or buy super highend gear to get to 10-15lbs anymore.
I think as long as you stay away from instagram and youtube then the whole approach to ul is much more sensible.
I grew up hiking with big packs, heavy tents, leather boots, trangias, huge roll mats, etc. We managed but in hindsight it sucked. Being able to throw a small, frameless pack on my back and stroll off in trail runners is such a luxuary.
