What's the hat situation?

I need to get some kind of sun hat for sun/rain. Any solid brands? I've never had a hat with "breathable mesh." Does that stuff make any difference?

This is a stupid question, I know, but will I regret getting a black boonie hat?
It's 33% cheaper and also in stock, whereas the khaki one wouldn't get here for 3-6 weeks. Would a black nylon hat with vents get too hot? Surely it's not as bad as a black cotton tshirt, but will I regret it?
