It's not as scary as most videos/photos would have you believe. The narrowness is exaggerated by the wider-angle lenses people use to photograph it. It's also a really short trail - I was surprised when I got back to the bottom and saw it hadn't even been two hours.
The real downside is how crowded it is. I took the literal first shuttle bus of the day out there and there were a shitload of people. Most of them were pretty slow fortunately, so at the pace I went I was still among the first to the top. The worst was on the way back down - I had to stop several times waiting for long lines of people going the opposite direction to navigate the narrow parts. I get the feeling the accidents on that trail all happen because people get impatient in traffic.
>>1781318Seconding Observation Point over Angels Landing; you get a much better view, and when both trails are open Observation Point is WAY less crowded. I saw people turning around at the halfway point because the initial switchbacks leading up to Echo Canyon filter a lot of people.
If you're up for a longer day hike, do the east rim trailhead near the east entrance all the way to Observation Point. It's 22 miles round trip, but you get some fantastic views of the park you wouldn't otherwise get. And as a bonus, almost no one hikes the east rim trails so you'll be alone until you merge into the main route.
