I also live very near lake texoma, on the Texas side. What your neighbor said is true but it's nowhere near as bad as he made it sound. The Texas wildlife department maintains a list of bodies of water they issue advisories and eating bans for, there are many of them, but texoma isn't mentioned at all. They test the water frequently and have never found any high enough chemical levels to be a threat to people or wildlife. When I was in college studying biology we actually took samples from around the lake and tested them ourselves and every thing we could measure was under advised limits except for nutrient levels. It's a nutrient rich lake because of fertilizer run off which lead to algae blooms in the past but the Texas and Oklahoma wildlife depts have started working together to treat the lake when and where they can to prevent blooms. When I was a teenager I remember a period in the mid 2000s where they had 2 or 3 back to back fish kills from algae bloom in a span of 5 years and it devestated the lake economy, that's when both sides started taking it seriously. Just try fishing there and see what you think. If you like catfish, try the west side of the lake near the river mouth. I caught my pb blue cat there. It maxed out my 50lb gauge and we guessed it around 60-70lbs. The best striper fishing is on the east side around the Eisenhower state park area.

Also texoma isn't your only option. From family I know the ok wildlife dept stocks trout in the blue river and I've also been to Lake Murray up there which isn't too far away and it's always clean and pretty.

The 3wt fly rod is so much fun and it can easily handle 1lb - 2.5lb trout. Was using 5X leader and tippet.
Heads always turn when they see the rod bend and hear the drag scream.

There's an old sandpit near me, and one side looks like it gets pretty deep. I don't think there's any fish aside from me hooking whatever the hell this was a few years ago. Possibly emerald shiner. Fishing with worms yielded nothing. I want to unofficially stock it with fish. What would be my best course of action? Cast net a shit ton of shiners or shad from a creek and stock those in along with a couple bass next year? I was considering stocking some strange fish. My buddy and I want to go out and map the lake out with sonar and see what we can do, but I'm guessing it's about 25 feet deep along one side like a little gutter and shallow 1-5 feet along the other side. If it is deep, i was considering stocking it with like smallmouth bass or white bass just so it can be a novelty for us and not another cesspool of dinky largemouth. What would you guys do?

Depending on your location smallmouth might not do so good. I learned from a family member's experience that they're not quite as hardy as LMB. He stocked his pond with some and they didn't survive the summer because his pond wasn't deep enough or the depth they would have needed to stay cool didn't have enough oxygen. SMB prefer colder water. LMB, stupid fish as they are, are so fucking resilient they can live almost anywhere, which is why every cesspit seems to have a few.

I need your help bros, how do I fish rapids 2-4ft deep with regular spinning gear (7ft MF rod)? What kind of baits could I use? I'm looking to try and repurpose some bass gear for it. Carolina rigs? Drop shots? Smaller jerkbaits and spinners?

Went to a local river (Grand River, ON) and just picked a random spot and ended up in some beautiful scenery, with shallow, clearish, fast moving water. Got skunked, would like to at least coke back and catch something!

My wife used to work at a wildlife rescue that had a snapping turtle that was too tame to release, he would wander around the office and look for people to play with and put his butt up in the air to ask for scratches on his shell. Wild ones are killing machines.

Snapping turtles are awesome.

I've heard great things about upstate New York trout fishing. I'm really jealous that you have access to it.
I'd personally be fly fishing in such a situation but you can use the tried and true silver/gold inline spinner (Mepps, Vibrax, Rooster Tails). Micro-spoons also work great.
Small sinking minnow baits (jerkbaits) require some skill to use effectively but are also potent.

I've found you can make an incision on the lure near the tail to free it up and give it more movement at low speeds. you dramatically reduce the life of the lure but most soft plastics don't seem to survive more than 2 or 3 fish anyway.

Only used this setup 4x the damn tip eye ring came off. Maybe just buying used tackle from a mom and pop bait and tackle shop isn't some thing you should do if you honestly can't trust that they inspect all their stuff before they sale it.
I honesty have no way to prove that I didn't break it myself. So makes it hard for me to call him and see what can be done about it maybe he would replace the rod to make up for it but at the same time I don't want to hear him say he won't because that will likely be the last time I recommend his store and I shop there. The rod is perfect hardly been used who ever did the guiders on the rod did a shit job.

I can't quite tell, did the tip ring pop out, or did the tip come off? If it came off, get the stuff in the link. If the ring came out, you can order new tips for a few bucks with that ferrule cement and it won't come back off.

When you buy cheap gear you need to be aware of what you're giving up. In your case it's quality control and warranty. I wouldn't bother the tackle shop because it's not their fault. Find a guide replacement kit online, they're cheap as fuck, epoxy it on with some dollar store epoxy and you have a perfectly good rod for less than 5 bucks again, much less hassle than being that fucking customer at your small local shop

depends on the fish. salmon needs to be frozen, as do any freshwater species. most saltwater fish are fine. if you get a tuna you can quickly inspect for any visible parasites then just cut some pieces off and eat it right on the boat

it should be noted though that most good sushi places will age their tuna a few days because it is a bit chewy if you eat it fresh, and much more tender after being aged

Some guy just uses glow sticks and tapes them on to his rod but I fish a lot at night so I don't want to be wasting money buying glow sticks almost cheaper to buy black tape and some glow in the dark paint .

If you are more into freshwater then Devil's river, upper Guadaloupe River, and the upper Brazos are good fun, especially on yaks. I think lake fishing is quite boring and overrated, those rivers are where it's at.

About 3 years ago I got a 30 inch pike in there with a bass spinnerbait. It's really surreal to catch fish in such a horrible setting.

Any of my local fish & tackle would have repaired it for you if you had just bought from them. Then again, none of my local f&t would carry Hurricane gear. Kmart carries that.
Most small shops carry a full arsenal of best quality for the $ and stand behind it if they are reputable.
Low end/cheap stuff is for pure beginners that may use it once or to have an extra rod/reel on hand for guests.
For the 150 you paid you could have done much better.

Have fished the river wharfe at boston spa with my friend a few times and we've seen a carp there on a couple of occasions. Not sure if it's truly wild or escaped from a lake during the floods there in 2015 (I think).
If you get up there it's on the spa baths bit of the river. There's a newsagents in the centre of the village bit that sells tickets.
If you walk along you'll get to a bit where there is a tree that was hit by lightning. It's near that tree that we've seen the carp.

I measured mine with a caliper and got the closest size. it was just a tiny bit loose so to be sure everything would be bueno I put a small piece of cloth (they were actually gun barrel cleaning patches) and wrapped it around the the rod and slid the tip over it. was much more snug, so I slid it off and dabbed a little epoxy on the cloth then put it back over and epoxied over the whole thing. had no problems to date.

I know i'm over simplifying it but fishing rods are essentially just sticks, you don't need lots of obscure knowledge to glue shiny pieces to them and restore function.

I fish at a highly pressured park here in Vegas, when all else fails, I result to wack rigged 5" senkos or a ned rig. Ned rigs are just mushroom head jig heads with half a senko put on it.

It's best to use the z-man ned rig plastics as they also float, so they give a better presentation. I always get a bass on this stupid finesse style lure.

I've fished in West Virginia, Tennessee, Virginia, and Pennsylvania on all types of water and have never caught the first rock bass, at least since I've known that they exist. Plenty of black bass, bluegill, sunfish, and crappies, but never a rockie. IDK how the fuck that's even possible.

I saw 8 muskies today. 6 followed my bucktail, 2 of those followed it into my figure 8 but none committed. What do anons?
Also as i was harassing bluegill with a ned rig off my dock, i saw the biggest bass I've ever seen in my life (8lbs i guess which is rare up north here). It looked right at my ned rig, contemplated and swam off. Between that and the muskie follows I think my heart stopped about 5 times. I ended the day targeting perch and made a nice dinner, so all in all I'm content.

You have to find eddys along the bank and cast into them. Fish like to chill in those and strike at shit the current carries by. If you know there are fish who like swimming in the current you can toss a drop shot out with the lightest weight that won't get swept away and let what bait or lure you prefer suspend in the current.

Depends what kind of rivers. For the mighty lower niagara river that requires huge motors and massive boays to get up, shore fishing Canadians use float setups with a 35 or 25g slip float above a 1/2 oz or 3/4 oz trolling weight then a 2-4 foot shot line with a tapered splitshot filling the rest of the weight. Then you put a micro swivel to your flouro leader (mainline 15-20lbs, shot line 15lbs, leader 12 lbs). You can use jigs, flukes on a jighead, flies, minnows, worms, anything that can be dead drifted really. You can also use a 3 way rig

I'd say 130ish pounds without the motor. I can unload it out of a pickup or off my trailer alone easy, but it might be awkward from a roof. Maybe if you kept the motor in the back and not on the boat.

That said, it weighs less than a similar sized jon boat and handles wakes and chop way better. It also has a 550lb weight capacity so taking a girl or friend on board is easy. With a 3.5hp mercury I did some decent trolling, and a 1 gallon small gas tank will get me through a full 12hr day of trolling and fishing.

It's incredibly fast and most of all very uneven in flow. The water doesn't move in one dimension, it moves in 3 with huge up and downswells that pretty much make 10g the lightest float that won't get sucked underwater by the current. And it's not expensive, the only thing that i really lose is the leader when it gets snagged.

Pike/muskie are one of the big reasons walleye have a tough time making a comeback in certain lakes in my area

I think you got it. Walleye fishing is one of the few species targeting niches that is almost entirely catch and keep. Almost every single legal walleye that gets caught is kept. That's they are thriving in lake erie where there is more space than fisherman, but all inland lakes in populated areas are mediocre at best.
