Me and my ex talked about giving it a try but were unsure if it was the right call. Seems like a nude beach would be little more than a playground for swingers/voyeurs/exhibitionists and that didn't set well with us. Doesn't matter now, Corona killed our relationship faster than it could kill a 100 year old man on an iron lung with aids.

In my experience clothing-optional beaches aren't nearly as bad as alot of people worry about. When everybody is equally naked and exposed there's very little incentive for anybody to start becoming the one creep on the beach. People who live in glass houses tend to do well not to throw stones.

Found out there's a clothing-optional hot spring not too far from LA. It's apparently pretty popular and involves a decently tough hike so most of the people are a bit younger and more pleasant on the eyes than the typical nude beach too. I feel a bit weird going alone but I still want to check it out, never been to anything nude before.

Don't get me wrong, I love being barefoot in nature, but I've gone on nude hikes in the past where shoes are necessary because the ground gets so hot. I'll wear boots for as long as I need to before they come off so I can feel the ground beneath my feets.

Achaemenid Persians were very much against nudity whereas the Greeks were often naked in public. Same with Romans and barbarians. Today, Germans often go to naturist beaches whereas muslims avoid them.

It's probably an arbitrary difference, but if you must compare, I'd say civilized countries have no prejudice against nudity.

Personally I'm not a nudist, if the world were totally clothing-optional I'd still wear them most of the time. I just think swimsuits are stupid and shouldn't be required on any public beach, swimming pool, or other place you'd normally be forced to wear them in the US.

That's not even true though. People don't go around naked all the time but Europe has tons of nude or topless beaches, Northern Europe has a tradition of mixed-gender nude saunas, Japan was quite open about nudity before WWII, the Egyptians went around naked quite a bit, as did the Greeks, etc.

This is pretty accurate. When we started showering after highschool PE, everyone was at first super nervous about getting naked in front of everyone else in class. But nobody ever said or did anything to draw any attention while showering. In fact, the only one who drew attention was the kid who refused to shower and stank up the classroom afterwards.

Can confirm. In a lot of cases they're just 'beaches', clothed only areas are the more recent thing and mostly for tourists. Even in a pretty catholic area the smaller local lakes don't have restrictions. Kids also play naked in fountains and strangers shower together naked at public pools.

I fantasised about hanging out naked before we moved here, but its actually super uncomfortable and inconvenient. Yeah. How was the hike up there? Stuff I read makes it sound like it's some crazy shit but the actual descriptions sound pretty tame and I've seen a lot of fat people in pictures of the place so I can't imagine it's actually that bad.
