Fishing/rod general thread

My fishing rod broke in storage and I need to get a new one, does anyone have any recommendations on brand/style? Brands/styles to avoid?
I fish only on freshwater lakes for walleye and bass, my budget is about $150 for both the reel and rod. Are telescopic rods worth it for backwoods camping? I haven't shopped for a new rod in over a decade so I have no idea whats on the market these days.
