The high rain fall and high summer temps result in forests that are more like jungles. So the heat loss due to convection (which necessitates an underquilt and people getting cold in a hammock) is a positive quality. And the jungle atmosphere makes finding decent tent spots harder than other parts of the country. It extended my camping by several months a year when it would otherwise have been too hot (yes, it’s hot at night there). There’s no solution for August though. Pic rel.
>>1788598There are five (5) species of venemous snakes common to Louisiana: timer/cane break rattle snakes, pigmy rattle snakes, copperheads, cotton mouths/water moccasins, and Texas coral snakes. Cotton mouths are very common but no more dangerous than alligators.
