>>1789329Norm for what? 24 foot watersports boats? The Mako in OP pic is a 16 and isn't made anymore. HOWEVER! The 15ft model comes with a 40 horsepower motor stock, while the 17 comes stock with a 60. The 18/19 foot models comes with 115hp motors, and the 21ft model comes with a 150hp.
So 40hp for a boat rated for inshore, saltwater fishing.
http://m.makoboats.com/#boats_scr_detail?boat=5010I figured you may be looking at offshore boats and getting confused, but even offshore Makos from 18 to 21ft come with 150hp or below motors.
So I figured, maybe Mako is underpowered. Unfortunately even Carolina Skiffs come rated for only 90hp for 17ft models.
I looked towards welded (not riveted) "tinnys" such as the Lund SSV series, and even the 18 footer is only rated for 60hp, while the 14 footer is rated for 40hp. Both approved for saltwater use.
So where are you seeing these 250hp boats as standard? Because it's not on anything under 20ft and 250hp engines are far more expensive than a 40hp. Thousands more, in fact.
