Its more alternative sports related than camping/hiking/fishing/herbology/gearfag/etc related.

Dude, no. Fuck off.
There is no risk of death, there isn't even any loud noises, no realistic jams, none of the smells. It's a gap in training that is pretty concerning. I would be VERY unhappy if my government trained me in a "live fire drill" with airsoft. Live fire MEANS live rounds. I would be pissed if I had to deal with anything less than simunition.

Does anyone do that shit they do in Starship Troopers (ugh, I should stop myself here...) and make like 1 in 500 blanks a live round for the purposes of instilling fear of fire? I recall reading "Over the Top" by Arthur Empey and he said they did such a thing, but that was written quite sometime ago, like, post WW1, and shit could have changed.

When you are trained to use real ammo you are not shooting at each other. You are shooting at targets.

When you are training for weapons fire against each other you use airsoft-type ammo that fucking hurts like hell.
