Australian here. You'd be better off asking people in your specific country about importing seeds *from* Australia, as we've got crazy laws about importing plant and animal matter down here.

99% of the seeds I've bought from overseas have been seized by customs and held in quarantine for a few weeks. So I expect to receive what I order around two months later or not at all, with a pointy letter from Border Patrol threatening to arrest me, which I write on the return letter "They're just weird cucumbers from Greece mate, give us a break will ya?"

You can buy all the components for a fully automated 1500MW anti-aircraft and anti-drone laser battery from Aliexpress without them batting an eyelid, but tomato seeds will send you directly to jail

You might be shit out of luck importing Bunya pine as it's a protected species outside of plantation (which is rare as it's a very slow growing pine). Not to mention the cones are a hazard cause they are the size of a goddamn watermelon.

I don't know about the DGT specifically but SA is still well and truly closed and cases still rising. Restrictions are eased but still very strict by the looks, apparently enforcement is pretty minimal but getting into the country directly would be your biggest hassle, especially from the US.

If you want to read about /out/ shit pertaining to Australia, I'd recommend going to the local studies section in your local library. Hornsby library, for example, has an archive with plenty of /out/ stuff on site: https://www.hornsby.nsw.gov.au/library/catalogues-and-resources/collections/local-studies.

Keep in mind that lots of /out/ literature only has local circulation. Pic related is a book a mate gifted me that he found at vinnies — only printed in australia.

Personally I'd just do the Milford Track, Routeburn Track then call it a day, hire a van/car and drive around having adventures.

The amount of cases is rapidly increasing, our government has pulled this lockdown levels out of their ass, but we are probably going to move up a level or so. Recently the court decided that the current lockdown implementation isn't in line with the constitution and that the government will have to fix it, but we have yet to see anything come from that. I don't really care much, as I'm /homegym masterrace/ and I can fuck around outside whenever because I'm not a city slicker. Kinda miss class doe.

Texas has great winter camping. I still fucking swim in the winter there. Most of the South is probably the same. Anywhere in Appalachia is beautiful when covered in snow. The coldest it gets around WV/PA is around 20 degrees which is bearable and in no way threatening if you are prepared. It's not Australia but don't be a little bitch.

Aus can reach -10°C (20°F) in the winter as well in the snowy mountains? But for the most part, we hover around +10°C in the winter, which is nice and cool — that's like 40°F.

did some sections of it over the summer. (richmond range/nelson lakes section, some stuff around queenstown). The track is very busy during peak season, expect to see 15+ people per day on even the most remote sections. Many chunks are boring, mostly around the lakes and down towards invercargill.
I'd say you'd be better off starting with some classic tramps like the hollyford, dusky, rees-dart, gillepsie pass, etc. Note that the best tramping is off the beaten track, there's a huge number of more remote routes that you won't encounter a single person on.

Pic is of some ash/smoke from the aussie fires while going over a saddle in early january. Was quite surreal, could smell wood smoke.

VIC is a waste of time, don't go there. The parks around canberra are good. Do bimberi peak if you haven't already.

lots of good spots in the aussie alps (you'll have to wait until the snow recedes though). Start with the main range track + townsend. Ticking off some of the wilderness huts in jagungal is a good goal.

The blueys and budawangs aren't too far for a canberran and are a good option for winter walking. Lots of routes around kanangra, wombeyan and the southern highlands. Good time for off-track walking because the fires have cleared out most of the scrub.

We got rid of the virus but not in time to go camping one more time before winter.
Already fucking -9 at night.
All my ski gear is in lock-up overseas so I cant even go snowboarding this year.
Gunna just do some domestic travel while it's cheap I guess.

I’m going to do the Cooloola ”””Great Walk””” next week (pic related), seems pretty chill, will report back. Aiming to do the Gold Coast Hinterland track as well, I’ve only ever been there overnight before but a lot more tourists are around there obvs.

OP pic is from Bunya Mountains National Park, also pretty nice if you stay off the main tracks near Dandebah.

If you can get all the way out there I recommend Carnarvon Gorge; it’s not very popular but honestly the best NP in the state.

I did six foot track the other day. Knew what I was in for but did it just to tick the box.
100% do not do this hike, it’s walking along roads for the majority of it. Did it in one long day.
Would recommend K to K instead, once it’s open again.

Lots of good day hiking options are open. Most tracks around Wentworth falls, Leura and Ktown.
Kanangra, Grose valley closed.
I would take a stroll down the Wentworth Pass on Wentworth falls. Grand canyon at night is also good for glowworms.

I agree that the 6ft track is a joke, but there's heaps of good walking around the cox, kanangra, etc. If you haven't already, get a copy of miles dunphy's southern blue mountains sketch map (paddy pallin in sydney has them). Shows lots of followable routes that aren't clear on the topos.

I’m unemployed due to corona so at the moment I’m going out every other week based out of SEQ. Spending my NEET bux on new gear, thanks ScoMo.

Maybe when WA opens I’ll go do the Bibbulmun track. It looks like it’s mostly hiked by oldies but I’ve never done longer than a month /out/ at a time, so it might be fun to give it a crack. At this point I may just turn into a full time trail hobo.

I am very lucky that desert exploration is part of my job. The pay is absolute shit, but being able to get out and explore places that are very rarely visited by white people is a pretty cool feature that makes up for a lot of the crap (crap pay, crap layers of bosses who give conflicting commands etc)

I did the South Island section March-April last year. There are boring bits towards Southland, but for the most part it was sick. If you are going in Jan you will be surrounded by people, and lucky to get a room in the huts. March-April was right at the tail-end of the season, but there was way less people, however the weather can be hairy that time of year.
The Richmond Ranges can be fucking brutal though it's your first big section and the biggest of all in the whole South Island, I did it in eight days but thats still 8 days of food to carry.

I go out with small groups local Aboriginal people and we often go to sites of significance (not sacred sites, just places of historical significance to them).

Exploration for me, revisiting places for them.

I try to record stories there that are used in the media job.

1. You will probably fly into Auckland, and from there you already have a shitload of volcanos at your disposal - some dipshits decided to build the city right in a fairy-ring of volcanos. There's Mt. Eden, Mt. Taylor, Mt. Wellington, One Tree Hill, Rangitoto Island, just to name a few.
2. East Coast Bay of Plenty. Where I grew up, the coast from Mount Maunganui and East is littered with onshore and offshore volcanoes, including: Mayor Island (HIGHLY reccomed a visit, its the last native Pohutakawa forest in the world) Mt. Edgecumb, Whale Island, White Island (errupted last December, killed a bunch of people), Mt. Tarawera, and Mt. Maunganui (a volcano extrusion)
3. Rotorua - Taupo area. High geothermal activity. You will see a lot of hot springs, mud pools, geysers, and other fun shit. The whole township of Rotorua smells like sulphur. Plenty of smaller volcanoes around too.
4. Central Plateau / Tongariro National Park. This is the big one, three massive volcanoes in a cluster; Ruapehu (tallest mnt in N Island), Ngaruahoe, and Tongariro. Lots walking tracks to see crater lakes, thermal vents, hot springs, cool volcanic rock formations.
Theres other shit all across the North Island too but those are the main areas

Lake Hauroko is the deepest lake in NZ, located deep in Southland, the bottom of the country. There is a lake there called Mary Island, which was for a long time considered to be the site of a maori curse (tapu). These kinds of things usually occur when a tribe is massacred etc. However in 1963 in a tunnel by the waterline an archaeologist discovered the mummified remains of a maori woman (pic rel)
The skeleton is wrapped in a cloak of weka feathers with a dogskin collar, she is sitting upright on a chair made from sticks and twine. There was originally a barricade of wood and fern to prevent access to the cave Her death is dated to roughly the 1650s-1700s. But the most interesting thing is that this is not the usual manner for maori to dispose of the dead - in their pre-contact culture they burned the dead in order to stop the God of Blood from eating their corpses and growing strong enough to bring about the end of the world.
So the question is who exactly was this woman and why was she interred like this? Popular myth suggests that she was a chieftainess or priestess of the local iwi (tribe), and that she was interred to combat a curse, and the manner of her burial was to stop her bones from being possessed after death.
The local iwi deny anything to do with curses, but the odd thing is that maori are notoriously tetchy about their history, so you might expect that the Lady in the Lake was removed and either buried or put in a museum. But she's still there in her cave, and the entrance now has a grate over it so noone can get in and take her out.
Me and my cousin are planning on going to visit sometime for spooky /x/ times, but it just does to show what other weird maori shit could be in the inacessable cliffs around Fiordland.

This is where I live and spent my younger years tramping. Do people actually do this section often now?? I went a long way out around 2005 and one of the hut books hadn’t been filled in for 15 years. I can’t imagine seeing other people up there. Also I see some track times are wildly optimistic. Hackett-Slaty 6 hrs??
Easily 8 hrs hackettS-starveall, then 6 to slaty. Unless there’s actually a track now? It used to be so poorly marked you had to actually navigate. No gps back then.
