Hey /out/, I'm looking for a good manual coffee grinder that packs tight to grind those campfire roasted beans in the morning. What are your recommendations?
I'd like one that grinds coarse evenly, as I use a French press.

Don't really care if it's ultra light, just normal. I do care about the place it takes though, so removable or folding handle is preferred.

Just grind your coffee at home or the store before you go out. It'll stay fresh for a couple of weeks. If you're going /out/ sometimes you have to compromise on coffee.

Not him, but I've roasted for 15 years now using heat guns, popcorn makers, stovetop poppers, stuff cobbled together, and I always go back to a thick covered pan over a flame. Don't think it will matter much if the flame is natty gas or wood.

If you like a dark roast you might be able to get away with crushing the beans.

Yeah in the op he said he wants a grinder for those campfire roasted beans, and yes you can roast in a pan but it's never going to roast as evenly as an actual coffee roaster that a company would use, I'm sure he can find a local roaster that he likes and he could just use that

OP here, yes it would probably taste better if I got a nice roast locally and carried it up ground to make the coffee. To me roasting is also part of the enjoyment, going slow, taking you time to roast your beans and then grind them to finally pour yourself a coffee. This is stuff I don't take the time to do during the week where everything goes fast. I enjoy the process and the change of pace.
Also shaking regularly helps with evenness of the roast, even though it's not nearly ideal.
Last but not least, please stay on topic. Telling how I should enjoy my coffee is not on topic and highly presumptuous of you fags.

Just quit coffee, it’s annoying, costly, time consuming, bad for the environment, makes you shit, makes you fidgety, etc. I used to drink 10+ cups of coffee a day, now I haven’t had a sip in 18 months. One less thing to take camping with you.

desu I prefer having beans at different roast levels and will frequently blend two different beans, one roasted dark and one lighter.

If you like experimentation you might try wrapping some beans in foil and baking them. Heck, I might try it next time I go. Problem is it will probably waste a lot of beans and time to get to a good technique.

Do you have any tips to share for roasting? Two things that helped me a lot were keeping the pan covered while tossing every 2s and spraying with water to speed up the cool down (just until it stops sizzling)

idk dude do you just drink shit coffee? Cream and sugar fucks it up IMO. I grind and French press, sometimes I'll throw in one scoop of some hipster fruit flavored coffee but otherwise fuck the cream and sugar. Also, i noticed after I started drinking it black that when I used to drink coffee with cream and sugar it would occasionally try to murder me. Something about the surface tension I guess. No other liquid would "go down the wrong pipe" but coffee with cream and sugar

No, it's not wrong, a frying pan on a fire isn't going to roast as well as a proper coffee roaster.
Also can i just say, coffee that has just been roasted isn't at its best, fresh roasted coffee gives off loads of co2 and it needs time to rest, coffee is at its best at about 5-7 days then if it's kept airtight it'll be good for a few weeks, fresh roasted coffee isn't as good
