Hey out I recently upgraded from an external pack to an internal an osprey aether. And I am trying to figure out how to load a sleeping back my tent seems to take up all of the bottom compartment where would you suggest I pack it

This is the reason why some people prefer tarps, or poncho tarps, or any other variation with the goal of saving space. Which is why some people can go hiking with a 35L pack with two weeks of food, and everything fits in.

Sleeping bags and tents take up a huge amount of space, so either you get a bigger pack and become a walking tank, you seek more expensive alternatives that provide the same comfort at a smaller size, or you accept to lose some comfort and hang half your gear outside your pack. Or even less comfort and you go with a tarp and a summer sleeping bag all year long, with a decent mattress to increase its performances.

Knife,x2, been taking moras allot lately because i'm a poor fag
2 32Oz nalgene water bottles.
phone with extra battery
And a small ultra light fish kit.

I can't think of anything else off the to of my head but I see no reason to really take much more than that in the summer any ways, especially in Kansas.

Lasted a week inna woods with that pack, main reason I quit was because the rice ran out and I got so fucking tired of fish....

I've had two kestrels and with both, whether i'm taking a tent or a tarp, I use the two straps near the butt of the pack.

Yup, that's what I do as well... means the matress has to go under the lid, though, which can be somewhat inconvenient.

I had the same problem as you, OP, with my sleeping bag taking up like 30L of my 48L pack. Solution was to buy a nice down bag that packs down way small. If that's not in your budget then you'll probably have to do something like pic related.

I normally pack my sleeping back in the bottom compartment, tent in the bottom of the main compartment, then my waterproof sack of clothes/etc on top of the tent. Assuming my food is in waterproof packaging, I would normally stuff it around the sides as low I can can get it.

I've got a similarly sized sleeping bag, but I use a compression bag (Sea to Summit) to make it fit in the bottom compartment (Osprey Aether as well, incidentally) without any issues.

Tent goes in the main compartment, poles and stakes in one of the side compartments. Leaves enough room for clothes, food and even my thermarest, all in the main compartment.

That's actually my Kestrel 48, but they do look very similar. I probably could've gotten away with a nice compression sack but my new bag weighs something like 24 ounces. Unfortunately it didn't come with a compression sack, but when I do get one it will probably get down to softball-size.
