Hiking/Edc backpack suggestion

I need a bag for everyday use and weekly hiking.
Currently I don't have money to buy two separate backpacks, so I was thinking of buying black/grey 5.11 Rush 24 or AMP 24.
I like the 5.11 backpacks because of their clam shell opening, organisation, ruggedness etc.
Also, I do not want to look like those idiots that go for a hike in full camo tactical gear.

I have the rush 24 and the rush 12. I’d go the 12, it’s a better size imo with enough space to carry everything I need for a day hike. What kind of hiking are you going to be doing? I doubt you’d be able to fit an overnight kit in the 12 unless you’re into that minimalism shit.

Rush 24 was money well spent been using mine for 6 years now I had to replace the zipper pulls because they wore out and there is this small tear pick related. IMO this and their pants are the only good thing 5.11 makes everything else is dog shit. I went on day hikes with it but it isn't a hiking backpack more of a do it all hauler.

Have had this for a week now, build is sturdy and high quality, IMO. Ride my bike to work everyday (3km, lucky guy), yesterday got caught in the rain on my way back home, my stuff was kept dry. Larger than I thought but that is more of a plus in my case. Will take it hiking sometime soon. Enough compartments for me, can expant with the tactikool MOLLE stuff. Literally sold as "Tactical Backpak" lmao.

I use the Teton Oasis 1100 as a day hiking, fishing, and EDC bag. It's pretty good for $30 (Yes, its $30, prices are higher than usual right now).

Its 18L, comes with a decent 2L bladder for the price, has a large main compartment, a small compartment on the top, and a medium sized compartment in the front, an area underneath the front compartment for storing a jacket, 2 deep water bottle holders, 3 compression straps, a shitty cord for carrying things in the front, and chest and waist straps. It's a budget day pack, but it's hard to beat for the price. It's not tacticool.

I rarely go out more than a day so I've using my old eastpak backpack I was using in highschool. Works perfectly for everyday use and weekly hiking as you'd need it, plus they're guaranteed for life. Patrician taste for any non-larping faggot if you ask me.

Bought the Meme Face Borealis pretty recently. It's p lightweight and comfortable and has more than enough space for EDC/school gear. It also has enough room for a small multi day pack and camping essentials, though I do miss having molle and more external pockets.
That being said I don't consider visible molle good for EDC/blending in because you stand out and look like that tacticool loser who LARPs with his ROTC friends, but if you don't care then why not.

Also if it wasnt obvious enough before, the best thing you can do is go to the store and try them out. Don't rely on what's online alone becaus eyou might end up hating it. Go to a bass pro/cabelas/REI etc and wear a few choices around for a bit.

I have the 24 and the 72, they fucking kick ass,well designed and durable feels comfy, I can fit all my fishing shit inside of the 72 including 3 pack rods a folding chair, a collapsible 5ft net, tackel&bait wind gear, room for sammich and water... I bring a kobo read, smoke some weed and catch cats all night. Its very comfy and I fish more because the bag is always ready to go. The 24 I use for literally everything else it kicks fucking ass and is setup similar to my other back so I can find shit easy.

So this is 100% my opinion so take it for what its worth.

I don't like using tactical packs when I'm hiking or camping. Yeah they can be comfy and durable but its no replacement for feature rich Osprey or Eddie Bauer or outdoor brand packs which are designed from the ground up for outdoor use. I also know a couple of marine vets who refuse to use tactical packs in the outdoors cause there are much better options on the civilian market. Honestly man you'd be fine just getting similarly priced hiking pack off of REI or something, it'll be more comfortable over time.

Also if you go out for a hike and you're on the trail with a tactical backpack people are gonna kinda look at you weird, cause most people see it as just a larp.

Idk. Like I said people can do whatever they want, but I think the average non-/scout/ is more likely to see strichtarn as "Oh neat green design" and accept it quicker than molle straps. At the very least if you're trying to blend in to the average cit-diot it's probably a good idea to think how they would. I don't think everybody will recognize the pattern that quick.

Also just to be clear I have never purchased a NF product until this bag because I see it as a company focused on attracting people who go to nat. parks to indoor rock climb, but the bag was on sale and I like it so far. Again, just a recommendation for consideration when looking for something that works as EDC.

I actually had one for a few weeks and returned it. Bought it for pretty much the same reason as OP, mixed use as an EDC and day hiking bag, and it just didn't feel happy with the amount of shit I was loading into it for school. The pathetic excuse for a waistbelt didn't help either.

I ended up replacing it with a Hazard 4 Patrol "Grayman" and I'm really happy with it, it has all the good features of a tactical pack but doesn't obviously look like one. (I don't have a pic handy of the bag alone but here it is with my gear from last fall.)
